Masto Kids is a non-profit charitable organization, founded in 2002, by families who have children diagnosed with mastocytosis, and other interested people. Run by volunteers, Masto Kids is dedicated to raising awareness of pediatric mastocytosis and to encouraging research of this disease. There is little understanding of pediatric mastocytosis and very little research being conducted.
- Mastocytosis can come on at any age, but the disease is different when adults get it.
- Children with mastocytosis usually get it in their first year of life and will usually have an increase in the number of mast cells in the skin only.
- Some children find that large amounts of certain foods can also cause a flare up of the condition. Flare ups can also happen from hot baths, drinking hot liquids, swimming in cold water, exercise, and/or stress.
